Ok. Maybe its lack of sleep combined with cleaning pollution for the past 4 hours but this idea is the result.
Q: What is the purpose of pollution?
A: To eliminate server stagnation
Q: Is the purpose of pollution good?
A: Yes
Q: Does cleaning pollution bore the players?
A: Yes, almost to burn out stage
Q: What can be done?
A: I'm glad you asked! Keep reading...
I think we can all agree on 2 points:
1. Something must be done to open up cols left behind by players who have quit.
2. Cleaning pollution is far too tedious.
I propose this:
When a player had not logged in 30 days (deletion date). All their cols go into riot status, this shuts down all production of weapons, creds, and shuts off the solar.
Get the idea...i might revise this after i've had some sleep. Thoughts are welcome. No flamming please.

a lot of people arent deleted after one month...
Also, that means all i need to do is log in occasionally.
Also, i think you missed a big point: pollution helps keep empires somewhat limited. Its not about killing cols after someone quits, its about keeping corps from owning the entire server. (Obv this doesnt work perfectly).
