The Bdaycake guide to Starport: GE for YOU! (And others)

Post by bdaycake » Fri Feb 24, 2006 3:07 am

Well, hello! Welcome to the wonderful world that is Starport.
If you noticed or not, you havent got much compared to others.
First of all, the only way for you to learn is for you to know what
you plan on doing. So there is a guide for all kinds of players.

I: Fighters
II: Builders
III: Criminals
IIII: Top rankers
V: Dudes who fool around

I: Fighting is easy to get used to, and it can be pretty fun, since if
you want, you can duel your friends in a safe duel and bet on it too.
You need sheilds, and they might look cheap at 20$ each, but you're
going to spend a fat stack buying 15,000 sheilds for a new ISC. First
off, you probably want to gain some rep doing tasks and such until you
have 5000 rep. This will also get you a bunch of money, especially escort.
But it will cost fuel, but that is rechargeable. You will upgrade your ship a
few times, but eventually you will come out on top with an Imperial
Starcruiser. These hold onto 16,000 sheilds and 150 cargo space,
a heck of a package. This is a great ship for everyone, but it hasn't
got the best fuel usage, so maybe its not for you. When you fight,
you have a series of weapons to choose from, including special
secondary abilities in your ship. These are not interchangeable but
are very useful. You can buy different primary weapons which are
different, and they are for you to choose from, but the most
popular weapon among skilled players is the very expensive
Gravitron Beam, which deals lots of damage and auto aims, while
jumping across targets to hurt more than one in electric charges.
You can also buy hardware to assist in fights. You can get small
missiles from any starbase, like the one in Sol, you can buy nukes
at the pirate base or from the admirals club, and you can buy turrets
that automatically shoot enemies in range. The Vulture has its own
missiles that are unlimited. Finally, there is radar. Radar can do
anything from scanning all the planets in a system, showing another ship's
sheilds, or uncloaking Avengers. Actually, that's about all they do, but
they cost alot, so buy them if you need them.

II: Builders. Building presents a series of challenges as well, you have
pollution, population, morale, research, and resources. All of these are
important issues to tackle for the well being of the colony. (First, buy a biodome at a Starbase, like New New York in Sol.)
Of course if you just stole the colony you probably just want to set taxes to highest, government to prison, and construction to 100% with experiance. Let's say you just built a colony, on any planet, and you start with 25 colonists. First off, bring about 200 - 1000 colonists to fill the first biodome. If the colony is volcanic, arctic, desert, mountainous, or rocky, you may need from 1000 to 2000 medecine to support the colony. You will start with a refinery if you want to hold it, you can rush it or build it, your choice. After that build the radio receiver. (For morale.) From here on, you want to max out the refinery and biodome for pollution and populatioon. Some time after you build refinery 3 you should build the special building. After your colony is maxed, there are several things for each of the planets to work on. (Maxed includes Unity and Research)

Volcanic- 100% military, 0% tax, Prison
Oceanic- 100% harvest, 4% tax, Democracy
Earthlike- 100% harvest, 4% tax, Democracy (Use for spare colonists.)
Rocky- 100% harvest, 7% tax, Democracy
Greenhouse- 100% Construction, 0% tax, Prison
Arctic- 100% Construction, 0% tax, Prison
Desert- 100% Harvest, 4% tax, Democracy
Mountainous-100% harvest,4% tax, Democracy
Paradise- 100% military, 0% tax, Prison (For defense)
100% Construction, 0% tax, Prison (For experience)

III: Criminals. Do you like being the bad guy? Being the pirate whose
name sends a shiver down every captain's spine? Too bad. It won't
scare me, but anyway... Everyone else I mean. There is a way. It all
starts at losing 1000 rep from 0. -1000 rep allows you to enter the
pirate starbase and purchase the sethdar cruiser as well as nukes.
You will be able to rob smaller starports and you will be attacked by the
U.N. ships on patrol. Players and stations may set bounties on your head,
usually raising the attempts on your life. You will be able to reach this low
level of praise by comitting several crimes. 1. Kill escorts 2. Escort ships
with negative rep 3. Jettison colonists 4. Kill yellow ships and 5. Capture
colonies with positive morale. You will also lose further rep for robbing
starports.*** You lose as much exp as you would for dying if you are
caught stealing at a starport!***

IIII: HOW TO BE IN THE TOP 10: Get a lot of experience. I bet your
going to say, "Well DUH!" But it is simple. Playing any of the three roles
(Or all three) above will get you experience. It takes lots of time, but once
the server is going to re-bang, you will get your rewards with all the experience
from the tine the galaxy ran. ***Ways to lose exp***

1. Dying
2. Your escort dieng
3. Colony abandonment
4. Getting caught stealing

V: Dudes who fool around. Wanna goof off and waste money doing useless things
and magically be successful? I can tell you how. Do the jobs in stations to earn
cash so you can buy loads of the expensive beer (Captian's Stash) In the starport bars.
Who knows, maybe the bartender will tell you about some item or planet and you will
become the ultimate starport player!

I hope my guide is helpful. If there are any questions AIM me at evilbirthdaycake or
post them here. My e-mail adress is firewarrior5000@hotmail.com (What a weird
email adress.) More info is on the Starpedia, the in game handbook thingy.

Shouldn't there be an invaders type player too in your list?

I believe invading is a necessity in order to get anywhere in this game.

Anyone who'd like to disagree with that and say "oh i can build far away from everyone else and no one gets me"

That statement only holds true for so long before empires expand and find your section of space desirable.

Learn to invade, fight and defend. Especially in teams....Taking nuke hits for others, playing the limp dying duck at ten percent shields while luring them to a warp point only to have your friends warp in...timing is key to all tactics ;)

I'd have to agree, some time I will have to make a small guide... something I should do, I'll get around to it... someday, as with everything else in life.
