FPS fixes?

everyone knows im the biggest noob in starport so here goes...


i recently switched comps and a while back i started getting shitty low FPS sometimes....before i was running like 60-70 in space and 30-40 on cols.....

now most of the time im getting like 30-40 in space and 10-20 on a col ...sometimes its as low as 8 fps ......


ok so ...somone tell me how to fix it ...keep in mind i dont know jack shiz about computers

perhaps telling us about the computer your now using would help, its ram and stuff like that.

what operating system are you using

its a compaq 2 gb ram one of the newer invidia cards..not sure which one ...the comp is only like 6 months old and it didnt do it always but ti does now its wierd


i run vista home premium


somone said it might be gettign hot ...would that make it run wierd?

ive noticed newer graphics cards create lag, my older computer ran sge better and it had an older grapics card.

ive heard rumors that newer graphics cards cut support for old direct x programs in order to make the cards smaller. vista itself might also cause probems because of is general ability to fail at every aspect of functionality.

well i have had vista on the last 2 comps before this on eand it never effected starport ....so...


aside from that tho i played for a few hrs last night and i had no issues what-so-ever so go figure

I'm going on the assumption you have a dsl / cable modem?

If so check the setting on the network card, if it is set to low you get crappy fps. Put it on 100mps full duplex and see if it helps.

If not then go into hardware acceleration and set the performance bar in the middle.

I dont know what the stats are on my computer at the moment (using school comptuer) but i can say this.

i usually get 50-60 fps in space, and 3-12fps on a planet....
