Borderless fullscreen windowed mode - here's how

Post by rebjorn » Mon Nov 17, 2014 9:40 am

Just wanted to share some tricks I'm using to play Starport in borderless fullscreen windowed mode. I had some issues with fullscreen, likely a graphics driver thing, so here's a solution that I'm using. Going to link to 3 very small programs that you can of course check with the virustotal link checker if you want. By using these 3 programs in combination you will be able to save your desktop icon layout, swap between resolutions with a single click and also strip the window borders for a perfect fullscreen windowed experience.

Desktop Restore: http://www.midiox.com/index.htm?
QRes: http://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/qres.html
Border Stripper: http://sourceforge.net/projects/winborderstrip/

Scan for virus: https://www.virustotal.com/

Usage:

A) Desktop Restore - This program serves one purpose: Saving your desktop icon layout. You may want to do this before anything else:

- Install the program and after that just right click anywhere on your desktop.
- You'll now find two new options: "Save Desktop" and "Restore Desktop". Pretty much self explanatory.

B) QRes - place it in any directory. Then create these 2 batch files (or as many as you want):
qres.exe /x 1600 /y 900 /r 60
qres.exe /x 1024 /y 768 /r 60

- Just open up any text editor, copy/paste 1 of the above lines, save the file as for example "1600x900.bat".
- In my case my "main" resolution is 1600x900 but you could just change the numbers to match yours.
- The second one is for matching Starport's resolution, which is 1024x768. "/r 60" is for setting the refresh rate to 60.
- You need to place these batch files in the same folder as QRes! Drag shortcuts from there to your desktop.

C) Border Stripper - Again, you can place it anywhere. This program is not something you need to install, and it's just 1 file.

- Open up Starport. Snap it to the top and align it in the center of the screen by pulling the top window border.
- Open up Border Stripper, find Starport in the list to the left and click the >> button in the middle.
- That should be it. You may have to click "Refresh Windows" at the bottom. You can also use the positioning buttons at the bottom right.

Hope that helps someone out, some of this might even come in handy for other things.
